In June 2021, the International Trade Institute for West Africa (ITIWA), in collaboration with the Advisory Centre on WTO Law (ACWL), Geneva, Switzerland, delivered a training programme in international trade law for senior members of the Ghanaian Judiciary via Zoom.
The Advisory Centre on WTO Law (ACWL) is an intergovernmental organisation based in Geneva that provides legal advice and training on WTO law to developing countries and economies in transition. Its collaboration with ITIWA reflects the shared commitment of both institutions to building trade law capacity in West Africa.
The training covered key areas of WTO law including the general principles of the multilateral trading system, dispute settlement mechanisms, and the obligations and rights of WTO Members. Special attention was given to the practical implications of WTO law for the Ghanaian judiciary in adjudicating trade-related disputes.
The programme was conducted entirely online via Zoom, allowing senior judges and judicial officers to participate without interrupting their professional obligations.
