In July 2021, the International Trade Institute for West Africa (ITIWA), in collaboration with Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner, Miami, Florida, USA, held a training programme for senior members of the Ghanaian judiciary via Zoom in international commercial arbitration.
The programme focused on the New York Convention on the Recognition and Enforcement of Foreign Arbitral Awards, one of the most important instruments in international commercial arbitration. The New York Convention has been ratified by over 160 countries, making it a cornerstone of international dispute resolution.
The training was delivered by Ryan Reetz AB, JD, Managing Partner, Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner, Miami, Florida, and Pedro Martinez-Fraga Ph.D, Partner, Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner. Both are among the leading practitioners in international commercial arbitration in the United States.
Senior members of the Ghanaian judiciary participated in the programme, equipping them with the knowledge and tools to handle arbitration matters that come before the courts and to enforce foreign arbitral awards effectively under Ghanaian law.
